Low Force Adjusting

Low Force Chiropractic: Gentle Adjustments, Profound Relief!

Low force adjusting is a gentle chiropractic technique used to correct misalignments and improve function in the musculoskeletal system. It is designed to provide effective treatment with minimal force, making it suitable for patients of all ages, including those with sensitive conditions.

Types of Low Force Adjusting

Activator Method

  • Mechanics: Uses a small, handheld spring-loaded instrument called an Activator Adjusting Instrument (AAI) to deliver a quick, controlled, and precise thrust.
  • Procedure:
  • The chiropractor performs a thorough assessment of the patient’s spine.
  • The AAI is placed on specific points along the spine or extremities.
  • A gentle impulse is delivered, correcting misalignments without manual force.
  • Benefits: Minimizes discomfort, reduces muscle guarding, and provides targeted adjustments.

Thompson Technique

  • Mechanics: Utilizes a specialized table with drop pieces that move slightly when a gentle thrust is applied, enhancing the adjustment’s effectiveness.
  • Procedure:
  • The patient lies on the table, which is adjusted to their body type and condition.
  • The chiropractor applies a gentle force, causing the drop pieces to move and assist the adjustment.
  • This motion reduces the need for high force, making the adjustment smoother and less stressful on the body.
  • Benefits: Provides precise adjustments, reduces discomfort, and enhances patient relaxation.

SOT (Sacro Occipital Technique)

  • Mechanics: Focuses on the relationship between the sacrum (base of the spine) and the occiput (base of the skull) using gentle manipulations.
  • Procedure:
  • The chiropractor assesses the alignment and function of the sacrum and occiput.
  • Gentle techniques such as blocking (using wedges) and cranial manipulations are applied to correct misalignments.
  • Benefits: Improves spinal balance, enhances nervous system function, and reduces strain on the body.

Through Chiropractic Care, we focus on the relationship between the nervous system and the spine. We will strive to reduce pain and improve functionality, while taking steps to enhance overall health and well-being for our patients.

What to Expect…
A typical visit to Windsor Hills Family Chiropractic Center will include myofascial release (deep muscle work) applied to tight muscles, rehab training, Cox distraction and a low-force adjustment. An impulse instrument will be used on the neck (low-force instrument adjusting). Dr. Claire specializes in low-force techniques, which are gentle enough for a young child or elderly person.
